Setback Requirements for Parking

Snowmobiles, boats, or other recreational vehicles and campers must be parked in a rear yard unless the rear yard is inaccessible. Trailers or recreational vehicles must meet setback requirements providing at least a five-foot separation between the vehicle and any door, window, or opening of a dwelling or accessory building that provides ventilation or access to the structure.

Storage Rules for Recreational Vehicles

When parking recreational vehicles in your yard, make sure they are at least 3 feet away from the side or rear property line and 8 feet away from the back of a sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, measure the distance from the front and side that are next to the street.

Abandoned Vehicles and Inoperable Cars

Having broken-down or abandoned cars in neighborhoods can make the area look bad and reduce property values. The Code Enforcement Division in Billings says to make sure that broken cars or car parts are kept inside a building or taken away from the property to prevent them from being seen as abandoned.

Regulations for Commercial or Business Vehicles

In residential areas, off-street storage or parking of commercial or business vehicles is limited to one vehicle not exceeding 12,000 pounds. The storage of boats, trailers, RVs, and other recreational vehicles must adhere to specific setbacks listed in the city code.
