Montana may have more cattle than people, but Big Sky Country has quietly racked up a collection of genuinely wild world records, from the fastest loaf of bread ever baked to the single biggest swing in temperature ever measured on Earth. Here are some of the most interesting records that were set right here in Montana.

Fastest Field To Loaf - Three Forks

On September 19, 1995, a team from Wheat Montana Farms Bakery in Three Forks set the world record for fastest field to loaf, cutting wheat, milling flour, mixing dough and baking a full baker's dozen of 13 loaves using microwaves, all in just 8 minutes and 13.6 seconds. The record still stands today according to Guinness.

Greatest Temperature Range In A Day - Loma

Montana weather has a reputation for extremes, and the town of Loma holds the receipts. On January 14-15, 1972, the temperature in Loma swung 103 degrees Fahrenheit in a single 24-hour period, rocketing from 54 below zero to 49 above thanks to a downslope chinook wind. It remains the largest temperature variation ever recorded at a single location.

Largest Belt Buckle - Columbus

Montana Silversmiths went big for their 50th anniversary in 2023, and they meant that literally. The Columbus-based company built the world's largest belt buckle, an authentic-to-scale replica measuring more than 14 feet wide, officially certified by Guinness World Records on October 20, 2021.

Largest Hamburger Patty - Saco

Montana beef, taken to its logical extreme. On September 5, 1999, Loran Green and Friends of Hi Line Promotions cooked the world's largest hamburger patty at Sleeping Buffalo Resort in Saco, a single patty weighing 2.74 tonnes, or just over 6,000 pounds, and measuring more than 24 feet across. More than 3,500 people showed up to watch it grill.

Largest Snowflake - Near Missoula

Every Montana kid has heard someone claim they saw a snowflake the size of a dinner plate. Near Missoula, it may have actually happened. During a storm on January 27, 1887, snowflakes reportedly measuring up to 15 inches wide were recorded in the Clark Fork River valley near a ranch outside Missoula, and Guinness still lists it as the largest snowflake on record.

Longest Continuous Pickleball Doubles - Missoula

Pickleball instructor Dave Cook wanted to put Missoula on the map, and he did it. In January 2024, Cook and three teammates played for 27 hours and 5 minutes at Peak Racquet Club, and Guinness World Records later certified the marathon match as the official record for the longest continuous pickleball doubles match.
