If you’re in Billings and looking for something unique to do this August, set aside the afternoon of Sunday, August 17. That’s when the Cisel Recital Hall on the Montana State University Billings campus will host Met to Broadway, a musical event that blends the elegance of opera with the charm of Broadway.

The concert begins at 2 p.m. and promises to be an afternoon filled with timeless music and powerful performances, all set in the intimate and acoustically rich setting of Cisel Hall.

A Celebration of Talent and Tradition

Met to Broadway features performers from across the Yellowstone Valley and beyond, including the beloved vocal group Con Spirito and regional opera singers who have appeared in Rimrock Opera’s mainstage productions. These talented artists will take the audience on a journey through classic opera arias, show-stopping Broadway numbers, smooth jazz favorites, and more.

The event is being hosted by MSU-B Associate Professor Daren Small and presented by Rimrock Opera, which has long been committed to bringing high-quality musical performances to the Billings community.

A Welcoming Introduction to Opera

This concert is a perfect opportunity for anyone who’s curious about opera but not quite ready to dive into a full-length production. With a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, Met to Broadway makes classical music feel approachable and fun. It’s designed to be enjoyed by longtime fans and first timers alike. Whether you’re a seasoned opera-goer or just looking for a cultural experience to enjoy with friends or family, this event is the perfect entry point.

Admission Is Free, But Support Is Welcome

There’s no charge to attend Met to Broadway, making it a wonderful and accessible cultural outing. However, attendees are encouraged to make a free-will offering to support Rimrock Opera and its mission to keep live classical music thriving in Montana. Contributions go directly toward future performances and programs that bring music and storytelling to life on local stages.

Looking Ahead to a Season of Song

Met to Broadway is just the beginning of a rich upcoming season with Rimrock Opera. Later this year, they’ll host Auction of Arias on Sunday, October 5 at McCormick Café, followed by OperaFest on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Hilands Golf Club. The season concludes with a full production of La Bohème on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the Lincoln Center in Billings. These events highlight Rimrock Opera’s dedication to both preserving classic works and creating new ways for Montanans to engage with the arts.

Join the Celebration of Music and Community

Whether you love opera, Broadway, or simply want to support the arts in your community, Met to Broadway offers a meaningful and entertaining way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

LOOK: Montana's Most Beautiful Rivers

When you're looking for some of Montana's prettiest rivers, you don't have to look for - but you can certainly get off the beaten path, too.
The largest river in Montana by volume is the Clark Fork, but it's NOT the longest. The Clark Fork is considered the headwaters of the Columbia River Basin.
