Former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, will be honored in funeral services today, Thursday, January 9.

Montanans can pay homage to the 39th President of the United States by tuning in to the funeral proceedings, which will be broadcast nationwide.

National Funeral Service at Washington National Cathedral

The national funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral will begin with a brief arrival ceremony at 9:30 a.m. EST, followed by the full service at 10 a.m. President Carter will then be transported to Plains, Georgia, for a private funeral service at 3:45 p.m., and a private interment at 5:20 p.m. (All times are Eastern Standard Time.)

Television Broadcast of President Carter's Funeral

For those in Montana who wish to watch the funeral on TV, the service will be broadcast on "TODAY" and NBC News. Savannah Guthrie and Lester Holt will lead NBC News’ coverage, with "TODAY" starting the coverage at 9 a.m. EST. The funeral will also be available on local NBC channels to provide an accessible option for those without cable.
