The Latest from the Montana Legislature, Plus LIVE from Helena
If you're looking for the latest news out of the Montana Legislature, or wondering how bills and policies are being prioritized this session- we got a chance to catch up with Montana Speaker of the House Matt Regier (R-Kalispell) on Thursday.
Here's the full audio:
Plus, thanks to our friends at the Frontier Institute- coming up Monday and Tuesday we'll be LIVE from the capitol in Helena.
I'll be broadcasting LIVE from the 3rd floor "fan window" area of the capitol just above the rotunda floor. I'll have a table set up. I'll have some mics set up. And ANYONE can come join us on the microphone- Democrats, Republicans, Helena area-listeners, citizens lobbying the legislature...you name it.
When can you join us on the air? My best advice- the earlier the better, as our statewide 9 a.m. hour will fill up with guests VERY quick. I'll be there as early as 6 a.m. for our Billings and Bozeman area listeners. Starting at 8 the Flathead and Great Falls area listeners join in. Then the rest of the state will hear you at 9. Click here for the full station listing. We can also chat with you earlier in the morning and then hopefully re-air a portion of the audio for our statewide audience or our websites.
As for the latest news from the legislature, here's part of what Speaker Regier had to say Thursday morning.
Aaron Flint: Give us the highlights. What have been some of the biggest topics or biggest items that have seen the most action here in the last week in the Montana Legislature?
Speaker Regier: Right now we've got approps. We've got over a billion dollars in tax relief. Tax relief checks going back. Our debt- we can get all our bonds paid off. We're lowering the business- exempting the business equipment tax, so a lot of Montana's small businesses we're gonna exempt from that...We've got revising tax credits for trades education. We've got subdivision review, cleaning that up, making that faster. Those are kind of our early wins that are sitting there now. A lot moving through and it's moving through fast and quickly here.
