I have a love-hate relationship with my local, Montana Walmart.

I'd say it's more of a tolerate-hate relationship. I tolerate Walmart because, in my small-ish-sized town (Laurel), the mega-retailer is essentially one of the only places to buy home goods and necessities at lower prices.

Don't get me wrong, having a new Albertsons is great, but like many Montanans, I find myself at Walmart more than I'd like. It's where we get our family prescriptions, and buy stuff like food, toiletries, cat litter, school items, etc.

On a recent stop at Walmart, I browsed through its "Montana" section.

With holiday shopping upon us, I wondered if there was anything on their shelves that I would consider purchasing for a gift, perhaps for out-of-state friends and family. This store had a reset about a year ago, and it looks like the "local" section shrank in the process.

Let's take a look.

Each Walmart across the Treasure State will likely have a slightly different selection of "local" items. I say local because most of the items are not Made in Montana. Probably China. But hey... the stuff all loosely represents Montana. In touristy towns like Bozeman, the selection of "Montana" gifts is likely much larger.

Stores in Missoula likely have University of Montana gear, while the Laurel store only had a few pieces of Bobcat gear. We'll assume the Havre store has Northern gear, while the Helena Walmart probably has a few pieces of Carrol College merch.
