Did you visit the 2024 Sunflower Festival in Billings?

I can't remember why my family didn't check it out last year, but this year we did and it was an enjoyable experience. Last week, we caught up with the founder of the event, Aubrey Hopkins, when she stopped by our studios to talk about the event. You can listen to the interview on the link below.

First, we fueled up.

There was a variety of food trucks on-site. My wife loves crepes and spotted Crepe Diem as soon as we wandered into the area and ordered a tasty crepe. I opted for some satisfying street tacos from the Mr Taco food truck.

Dual-purpose lemonades.

We also bought two huge blueberry lemonades. The kids shared one, and my spouse and I shared the other. The $10 price seemed a little steep at first, but when I realized the refreshing beverages were served in big glass Mason jars, the price point was a little more justifiable. PLUS, we could use the jars as improvised vases for the sunflowers we would soon be cutting.

Fun little free activities.

Scattered around the footprint of the festival were various simple activities and games, like oversized Jenga, a big checkerboard, cornhole, etc. The was also a balloon artist twisting balloons into swords, hats, and cute little balloon critters.

While my kids waited in line for their balloon creations, we hung out in the shade under one of the big tents. Pleasant music at a comfortable volume level played from a couple of loudspeakers during the day. There was live music later in the evening, but we left well before 6 pm.

A great family-friendly event in Billings.

It was nice having lots of places to sit, either for eating or just to chill. We both commented on how relaxing the event felt. The weather was a perfect late summer, almost-feeling-like-fall day. We took some fun pictures on our phones while we were there. Professional photographers were available if you pre-booked, but I was happy with our amateur shots.

Each ticket allowed guests to snip up to five sunflowers, and we had fun wandering through the rows of sunflowers to find our "perfect" flowers. The Sunflower Festival probably isn't your cup of tea if you're into non-stop excitement. But for $10 a person ($8 online), we felt like it was worth it.
