Montana’s Most Iconic Roadside Attraction Is A Lie

For those of you who enjoy taking a big ole' road trip, let me just say that there is a lot in Montana worth seeing.

There's Paul Bunyan's Frying Pan in Libby, the Running Horses just north of Three Forks, The Garden of a Thousand Buddha's, Our Lady of the Rockies, and many more. However, if you were to ask which Montana roadside attraction is the most iconic, which one do you think would take the prize?

While it might be debatable, the answer to the question is located in Cut Bank, Montana. Now, you might ask yourself, what's going on in Cut Bank? Well, according to the 27 foot giant penguin, it's the coldest spot in the nation, however, weather records would say that's not true.

Yep, the giant penguin is nothing more than a marketing tool. Oh, it works, don't get me wrong. Each year, thousands upon thousands of people stop to grab a picture with the statute and why wouldn't you? I mean, it's a 27 foot concrete penguin, if that's not worth pulling over to take a picture, I'm not sure what is.

Where is the coldest spot in the nation?

However, for those of you who are into facts, the coldest spot in the nation is Prospect Creek, Alaska where back in 1971 it was 80 below zero.

However, Montana does make the list for the coldest temperature in the lower 48, it just happens that it didn't happen in Cut Bank, but Rogers Pass, which is right around 147 miles away.
