Everyone blabs about the turkey on Thanksgiving (this writer included), but for many, the best thing about our annual, carb and calorie-laden meal around the Thanksgiving table is the pie.

Pumpkin and apple are two of the most popular pie choices this time of year, but why limit yourself to the standards? I'm personally not a huge fan of pumpkin pie, unless it's buried in whipped cream. How about mixing things up with a sweet and sour cherry pie, or a decadent pecan pie?

Don't have the skill or time to make a great pie? No worries.

Making awesome pies is something that grandmothers seem to do best, but if you no longer have a grandmother in your life (or don't have the time or baking skills to make a great pie yourself), picking up a bakery pie is a great option.

Thankfully, several great bakeries in Billings make incredible pies to go. Here are some worth checking out. Keep in mind, pre-ordering is usually a good idea (often required)... waiting until the last minute is not.

Fuddruckers - 2011 Overland Ave

A burger place with pies? Hear me out... the little bakery inside Fuddruckers actually makes some really good pies, as well as rolls, cookies, and other tasty treats.

Honorable mention:

  • Costco. The huge apple and pumpkin pies from the warehouse club are quite good.
  • Albertson's. Albertson's baked goods rarely disappoint, and they're convenient, with locations across the area.
  • Perkins. The food at Perkins is meh, in my opinion, but their pies are great.
