An incident at Billings Senior High School prompted a heavy law enforcement response Tuesday afternoon after reports of a stabbing were made following the end of the school day.

According to Billings Police, officers were dispatched to Senior High School at approximately 4:23 p.m. on January 13 for an assault. When officers arrived on scene, they located two individuals suffering from stab wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.

Billings Public Schools confirmed that a teacher was injured during the incident, which occurred after regular school hours. School staff immediately contacted 911, and the building was placed on lockdown as a precaution. District officials later reported that the injured staff member was in stable condition and receiving medical care.

An investigation is ongoing.

Police confirmed that all parties involved in the incident have been located and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active.

As part of the police response, a portion of Grand Avenue adjacent to Senior High was closed on Tuesday evening while officers investigated the scene.

“Arriving officers located two subjects with stab wounds who were transported to area hospitals,” Billings Police stated in an update. “All parties involved were located and there is no threat to the public in relation to this incident. This is an ongoing investigation.”

Classes and activities are cancelled at Senior High on Wednesday, January 14.

Out of an abundance of caution and to allow time for the school community to process the incident, all classes and extracurricular activities at Senior High School are canceled for Wednesday, January 14. Billings Public Schools also announced that crisis support teams and counselors will be available throughout the day on Thursday when students and staff return to the building.
