Billings Says Goodbye to a Store Full of Memories
Claire’s has been around for decades, a fixture inside malls and shopping centers across the country. For so many in Billings, it wasn’t just a store, it was a place woven into our childhoods and teen years.
From scrunchies to charm bracelets, tiaras to hoop earrings, Claire’s was always there, affordable, fun, and full of treasures that felt like they were just waiting for you.
A Childhood Memory Etched in Sparkle
For me, Claire’s was a rite of passage. It’s where I nervously got my ears pierced as a little girl, clutching my mom’s hand as I sat in that purple chair. Walking out with tiny sparkling studs made me feel like I had officially grown up.
The Little Accessories That Made Big Moments
Claire’s was also the store I turned to when life called for something special. I bought jewelry for prom there, hair accessories for my first date, and even the only “bling” I could afford to make my gown shine for a governor’s ball. Those little finds were more than accessories, they were part of the moments that shaped my life.

Claire’s Files for Bankruptcy, Plans Hundreds of Closures
Now, all of those memories are becoming bittersweet. Claire’s, the iconic teen accessories retailer founded in 1961, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time since 2018. Nearly 300 locations across the country have been marked for closure, including more than 200 Claire’s stores and 50 plus Icing locations.
Rimrock Mall Claire’s on Store Closure List
Among the stores slated to close is the Claire’s at Rimrock Mall here in Billings. According to court filings, sales at these locations will finish by September 7, 2025. While we don’t yet know the exact date our store will shut its doors, the news hits hard. It feels like saying goodbye to a piece of our growing up years even if we've graduated to being able to afford more expensive jewelry.

The Memories Will Outlast the Store
For Billings, Claire’s was never just about jewelry and hair ties. It was about milestones, friendships, and feeling a little bit more grown-up with every purchase. Even when the store finally closes, the memories it gave us will last far longer.
