Breyers Ice Cream Recalled in Montana for Allergen Mix-Up
Before you dive into that carton of ice cream after a long day, take a second look, especially if it's Breyers.
A recall has just been issued on a popular flavor, and it's not just a minor mix up. This one involves a potentially serious health risk, especially for anyone in your household with a nut allergy.
What’s Going On?
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced a Class II recall for certain 1.5 quart cartons of Breyers Rocky Road Ice Cream. The problem? These tubs were accidentally packed in containers labeled Chocolate Truffle.

While the lid correctly says Rocky Road, the tub itself says Chocolate Truffle, which means the label doesn’t mention almonds, a key ingredient in Rocky Road.
Here’s How to Know If Your Ice Cream Is Affected
Check your ice cream carton carefully. If the flavor on the lid says Rocky Road but the tub label reads Chocolate Truffle, and the best-by date is July 10, 2026, with a UPC code of 077567457288, it’s part of the recall. If your carton matches these details, don’t take any chances. You should either throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it for a possible refund.
Why It’s a Big Deal
If you or someone in your household has a nut allergy, this mislabeling could be dangerous. Almonds aren’t mentioned on the outside of the tub, which means someone could unknowingly eat them and experience a serious reaction. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, vomiting, hives, or even trouble breathing and in severe cases, it could lead to anaphylactic shock.

When in Doubt, Call for Help
If someone shows signs of a severe reaction after eating this ice cream, call 911 immediately. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to allergic reactions. For questions or more info on the recall, you can reach the FDA at 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332).
