Billings’ Own Austin Teyler Heads to France for World Famous Hill Climb
There’s just about Montana that produces greatness, and 29-year-old Austin Teyler is living proof.
A graduate of Billings West High School’s Class of 2015, Teyler has been twisting throttles since he was three years old. That childhood love for bikes has turned into a career that’s taken him all over the country, and now, back to the international stage.
Back Where It All Began
Teyler is heading to La Bresse, France this August for one of the toughest and most thrilling events in the world of hill climbing, the Montee Impossible.
This marks his fourth time competing in the event over the past nine years. And if that sounds impressive, it gets better: in 2017, at just 21 years old, Teyler won the entire thing. That victory made him the youngest rider ever to win the Montee Impossible.
One of a Kind Hill, One of a Kind Rider
The French hill climb isn’t your average race. Teyler says the terrain is completely unique, the bikes are built differently, and the whole experience feels like something out of a dream. While his last two runs didn’t deliver the results he hoped for, the overall thrill of competing overseas and being part of that adrenaline fueled community keeps calling him back.
Representing Montana and the Nation
This year, Teyler won’t just be carrying the pride of Billings or even Montana. He’ll be the only American competing in the 2025 Montee Impossible. One rider, one flag, one huge moment of pride. Every time he’s raced in France, he’s been the lone Montanan on the hill, and while he hopes others from Big Sky Country will follow in his tracks, he’s proud to represent his roots on an international level.

A Champion at Home and Abroad
If you’ve been to the Great American Hill Climb here in the States, you’ve probably heard his name before. Teyler’s won that event five times, no small feat in a sport where every second and slope counts. Now, he’s taking all that experience and heart back across the globe.

All Eyes on August
From the rimrocks of Billings to the hills of La Bresse, Austin Teyler continues to show what Montana grit looks like. He’ll compete in France from August 15-17, and back home, we’ll be cheering him on every step (and climb) of the way.
