
Billings Officer Seriously Injured in Dramatic On-Scene Confrontation
On Wednesday, May 14th, the Billings Police Department received a call reporting a male suspect armed with a knife trespassing in a parking garage on North Broadway. Officers quickly responded to the scene to handle the situation.
Violent Attack Leaves Officer Seriously Injured
When a Billings police officer arrived and attempted to get the suspect to leave, the suspect suddenly and violently attacked the officer. The assault caused serious injuries to the officer involved.
Suspect Identified and Charged
The suspect was identified as 28-year-old John Smells, a man from Crow Agency. He has been charged with two counts of felony assault on a peace officer related to the incident.

Officer Treated and Released from Hospital
Officer Hope Reid, who has served with the Billings Police Department for four years, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After receiving care, Officer Reid was released and is expected to recover.
