What began as a missing person case in Billings has now turned into a homicide investigation after police say a 35-year-old woman was found dead in Big Horn County.

According to an official updated release from the Billings Police Department, officers were called around 9:20 a.m. on Friday, April 24, after receiving a report about a missing woman. Police have not publicly released her name.

At that point, investigators began working to figure out where she may have gone and who she may have been with.

Investigators Tracked Down a Vehicle in Big Horn County

During the investigation, detectives developed information that led them to a vehicle believed to be connected to the missing woman.

That vehicle was later found in Big Horn County. Police say the woman was found dead inside.

Authorities have not shared how she died or released additional details about what investigators uncovered.

Billings Man Now Facing Homicide Charges

Police say 32-year-old Tanner Grove, described as a local man, was arrested on outstanding warrants on April 24 and booked into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility.

Four days later, on April 28, Grove was formally charged with deliberate homicide and tampering with evidence in a homicide case.

As with any criminal case, charges are accusations, and Grove is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Several Agencies Helped With the Investigation

The Billings Police Department thanked several partner agencies that assisted in the case, including the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montana Highway Patrol.
