This Memorial Day season, Billings is doing something special downtown. While the holiday often means cookouts and the unofficial start of summer, a new event aims to put the true meaning of Memorial Day front and center for the whole community.

The Billings Rotary Memorial Parade takes place Saturday, May 23, 2026, near Skypoint in downtown Billings, with the parade beginning at 10 a.m.

Organizers say the event is designed to honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country while also supporting veterans still facing battles after returning home.

This Parade Is About Honoring Those Who Chose To Serve

At the heart of this parade is gratitude for the Americans who willingly stepped forward to serve and protect this country, including the men and women who never made it home.

Organizers say the goal is to create an event that balances remembrance with community connection. While there will absolutely be moments of reflection and respect, there’s also a strong focus on bringing families together in a way that feels welcoming, uplifting, and memorable for all ages.

The message behind the event says it perfectly: “Honor the Fallen. Heal the Brave.”

That mission extends beyond honoring those lost in service. It also shines a light on the organizations and advocates working every day to support veterans who continue carrying invisible wounds long after returning home.

The Parade Will Have Plenty Of Energy And Community Spirit

This isn’t going to be one of those quiet little processions where everyone stands around awkwardly. Oh, no.

Organizers say the lineup is expected to include everything from horses and motorcycles to fire trucks, musicians, veterans groups, and yes, candy for the kids. Multiple community organizations are planning to participate, all helping to create an atmosphere that feels patriotic, lively, and family-friendly at the same time.

The Event Is Also Supporting Veteran Mental Health

One thing organizers emphasized is that the parade isn't just about remembrance, it's also about taking real action.

According to organizers, the Billings Rotary Club uses the event to raise awareness and funds for veteran mental health and suicide prevention services right here in the community.

Even better, they say 100% of distributed funds go directly back into local organizations helping veterans.

That local connection matters. These aren’t strangers somewhere far away. These are Montana veterans, neighbors, family members, and friends.

Families Are Encouraged To Come Together

One of the things organizers really emphasize is making this a family-first community tradition. There’s something important about kids seeing events like this.

It gives younger generations a chance to understand why Memorial Day exists in the first place while also showing them what community support and gratitude can look like in real life.

Sometimes it’s easy for the meaning behind the holiday to get buried under cookouts, sales, and the unofficial kickoff to summer. Events like this help bring that meaning back into focus.

How You Can Take Part or Show Support

The nice thing is there’s no pressure to do anything huge.

You can:

  • Join the parade as an individual, family, or group
  • Sponsor the event
  • Make a donation to support veteran mental health initiatives
  • Grab a spot along the sidewalk and cheer on the participants

Organizers say that any kind of community support helps make the tribute special. Sometimes just showing up matters more than people realize.
