The Petunias Are Coming! Help Downtown Billings Blossom This Summer

Every summer, Downtown Billings bursts to life with a dazzling display of color, thanks to the Flower Basket Program.

The Flower Basket Program is more than just a splash of beauty, it's a symbol of community pride, resilience, and a reminder that a little color goes a long way in brightening our days.

Now, the Downtown Billings Alliance is inviting neighbors, businesses, and friends to help keep the tradition alive by sponsoring a basket for the 2025 season.

Downtown’s Most Popular Beautification Program

Ask anyone who spends time downtown, and they’ll likely tell you the same thing: the flower baskets are a highlight of the summer. With 185 vibrant petunia-filled baskets lining the streets from late June through early October, these living works of art create a welcoming and cheerful atmosphere that’s hard to beat.

A Labor of Love (and Water)

Each basket begins its journey at Garden Avenue Greenhouse, where flower farmers plant and care for the blooms with precision and patience. Once mature, they’re proudly hung across downtown, a sign that summer has officially arrived.

The BID Street Team plays a huge behind-the-scenes role, watering the baskets every single day. On hot summer days, it can take up to five hours and nearly 150 gallons of water to keep them looking their best.

How the Program is Funded

While basket sponsorships are vital, the Flower Basket Program is a true community effort and is funded through a variety of sources, each one playing a unique role in keeping the blooms going strong:

• A portion of revenue from Alive After 5 wristbands.
• The Green Parking Meter Program (Yes, every time you park and pay at a green meter, a portion helps beautify downtown Billings!).
• Donations and sponsorships from individuals, businesses, and organizations,

Your Gift Helps Do Even More

In May 2025, the community rallied once again, raising an incredible $4,040 during the Yellowstone Valley Gives fundraiser. That’s enough to cover about 20% of the Flower Basket Program’s $20,000 annual cost. The goal is to fund at least 50% of the program through community sponsorships and donations each year.

Here's the exciting part: every basket sponsored helps free up funding to dream bigger. Your support doesn’t just make downtown more beautiful now, it allows the Downtown Billings nonprofit team to plan and implement even more sustainable, impactful beautification projects in the future.

Sponsoring a flower basket for the summer costs just $85. Each one includes a tag with a personal message, whether it’s “Sponsored By,” “In Honor Of,” or “In Memory Of,” your contribution will be proudly displayed for all to see.
