Billings Crime Map Website Shutting Down in October

If you've ever checked the Billings Police Department's online crime map to see what has been reported near your home, workplace, or child's school, there is an important change coming this fall.

The current crime mapping website will be discontinued beginning in October 2026. The good news is that public access to local crime information is not going away permanently. Billings Police are working on a new system that they say will be more detailed and easier to use.

Billings Police Will Retire the Current Crime Map in October

The Billings Police Department currently provides crime information through CrimeMapping.com. That service allows residents to explore reported incidents across the city and sign up for email notifications.

Beginning in October, the department's existing crime mapping webpage will no longer be available.

Anyone who currently receives email alerts through that website should cancel the subscription before October. Those notifications will stop when the service is retired.

Billings Crime Dashboard Will Remain Available During the Change

During the transition, residents will still be able to find public crime information through the department's Crime Dashboard. The dashboard is found under the Community Services section of the City of Billings website.

According to Billings Police, the dashboard is updated weekly and provides information about recent crime and broader trends in the community.

Billings Police Developing New Crime Mapping System

Billings Police say they plan to replace the discontinued service with a more comprehensive crime mapping platform.

The department hopes to have the new system fully integrated by late 2026 or early 2027. Police say it will provide more detailed information while also being easier for the public to navigate.

The new crime mapping service will be free to use.
