The Billings Police Department has officially opened the application process for its upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy, a free eight-week program designed to give community members an inside look at how the department operates on a daily basis.

The academy provides a unique opportunity for residents to better understand the work of law enforcement and the challenges officers face in keeping Billings safe.

Program Begins September 10 and Runs Through October

The Fall 2025 session of the Citizen’s Police Academy will begin on Wednesday, September 10, and conclude with a graduation ceremony on October 29. Classes will be held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Billings Police Department Training Facility, also known as the Police Barn, located at 4810 Midland Road.

Learn Through Hands-On Experiences and Presentations

Each week, participants will dive into a different area of law enforcement through interactive presentations and hands-on activities. From patrol procedures and K-9 units to investigations and use-of-force policies, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the training, tools, and decisions involved in modern policing.

This is an engaging way for community members to connect directly with local officers and better understand the department’s role in the city.

Who Should Apply?

This program is ideal for anyone who is active in the Billings community and wants to strengthen their knowledge of public safety operations. Whether you’re a curious resident, a neighborhood leader, or just interested in how law enforcement works, the Citizen’s Police Academy is an excellent way to get involved and informed.
