Billings Airport Report Reveals Massive Economic Impact
Over the last year, I’ve flown in and out of Billings Logan International Airport more times than ever before in my life. I’ve also picked up family and friends there at least half a dozen times, and every single experience has been smooth, easy, and surprisingly stress-free.
That’s part of why this new economic impact study caught my attention.
According to the 2026 Montana Statewide Economic Impact of Aviation Study, Billings Logan International Airport has an estimated economic impact of $824 million and supports 4,585 jobs with more than $265 million in payroll.
For one airport, those numbers are pretty incredible.
Montana’s Only Hub: Billings Logan International
One thing many people may not realize is that Billings Logan International is Montana’s only hub airport.
The airport connects travelers to destinations both inside and outside the state while also serving five Eastern Montana communities through 13 daily Essential Air Service flights.
The report also says the airport handles more than 100,000 aviation operations every year and serves more than one million passengers annually.
Beyond Travel: The Airport’s Broader Role
Most people think of airports as places to catch flights, but Billings Logan International plays a much bigger role across the region.

The airport supports emergency medical aviation, law enforcement operations, military training flights, aerial firefighting missions, and air cargo transportation. In fact, it’s the busiest air cargo airport in Montana.
The study also describes the airport as a “critical economic anchor” for southeastern Montana and northern Wyoming.
What Makes Billings Logan Airport Memorable
But numbers only tell part of the story. What truly stands out about Billings Logan is the actual experience of using the airport; it's something I’ve come to appreciate every single time.
Every visit, whether I’m flying out or picking someone up, has felt genuinely pleasant. Parking is easy, the terminal is straightforward, and the airport never feels overwhelming or chaotic.
If you travel even somewhat regularly, you know how rare that can be.

The economic impact study makes it clear that Billings Logan International Airport is a vital part of Montana’s economy. But for everyone who passes through its doors, it’s also something more: a place where travel feels welcoming, easy, and even enjoyable.
