Love Your Local Park? Billings Lets You Officially ‘Adopt’ It
There’s something special happening in Billings, and it’s all about community, care, and keeping our parks looking their best.
The City of Billings Parks and Recreation Department just rolled out a formal Adopt-a-Park and Adopt-a-Trail program, and it’s already gaining momentum.
From “Refresh the Rims” to Year-Round Commitment
If you've ever volunteered at events like Refresh the Rims or Saluting Branches, then you know how much pride people here take in our outdoor spaces. Those one-day events are awesome, but this new adoption program takes things to the next level, turning one-time help into long-term partnerships. It’s about building on the incredible network of volunteers that already exists and giving them the tools (and ownership!) to really make a difference all year long.
Meet the First Wave of Adopters
Some groups, like Disc Golf Billings, are already park pros. They’ve been out there maintaining courses and supporting the growth of disc golf across our parks for a while now. But some exciting new names are joining the lineup, too!
Billings West High School’s life skills students and staff, Rocky Mountain College’s Environmental Science Department, and the cycling advocates over at Pedal United are all stepping up. And when it comes to trails, major players like Phillips 66 and Scout Troop 27 are now on board.
Want to Join In? It’s Easier Than You Think
If you’re part of a school, social group, church, or organization and you’ve ever thought, “Hey, we could help out at a park,” now’s your chance. Adopting a park or trail doesn’t cost a dime, just a little time, elbow grease, and the desire to give back.

Adoption groups are asked to do quarterly cleanups and be a consistent presence in their chosen space. Hosting events, whether private or public, is encouraged, too. It’s a great way to bring people together and breathe new life into the places we all love.
A Big Thanks and a Bigger Invitation
Billings Parks and Recreation is sending a huge thank-you to the inaugural adoption groups who’ve already rolled up their sleeves. And if you’re thinking about your favorite park or trail, you know, that one where you take your kids, walk your dog, or just breathe in some fresh air, it might be calling your name. There’s still room for more partners to get involved.
